Is Paintball, Dangerous?

Paintball is actually one of the safest sports in existence according to the valuable sources received by DUSUN ALI KING.
First let’s look at what paintball is. Paintball was originally a game of capture the flag with the added factor of elimination by marking another player with paint shot from some of the earliest paintball markers. Paintball today is an extreme sport which incorporates the use of paintball markers, safety regulations and safety equipment. When we define paintball this way, we are only looking at properly run paintball games, and this excludes a lot of potential safety hazards that could be present along with the improper use of paintball equipment. Accidents that occur when people are improperly using paintball markers, even if they are “playing paintball (but not properly),” cannot be considered paintball accidents and paintball cannot be considered any less safe because of them. Although, even if you were to add these injuries that occur outside of properly run paintball games, the statistics would still show paintball being safer than most, if not all, other extreme sports and safer than most, if not all, sports.

So let’s get something straight here. Does paintball have the potential to be very dangerous? Absolutely, as with anything else. But with the proper safety guidelines put in place and enforced, and with a little common sense thrown into the mix, it’s extremely safe.

What are these safety guidelines, you might ask? Well, they are very simple.

1. When you play paintball at Dusun Ali King, we insist u wear our imported n recommended paintball mask. You must be wearing a paintball mask any time you are within range of an aired up paintball marker that doesn’t have a barrel sock on. The mask must be designed and properly tested specifically for use in paintball, and must be properly assembled with a lens that is in good condition.

2. Always chronograph your marker before play, and if necessary throughout the day of play. All paintball markers must be chronoed 300 fps muzzle velocity or less. Also, this maximum muzzle velocity must remain under 300 fps throughout the day of play. This means a few things. First, it means that if you have an inconsistent setup, or if you are using CO2, then you need to chrono below 300 to allow for spikes, so that if it does spike it does not go above 300 fps. It also means that you may need to re-chono throughout the day to make sure that the gas pressure, and therefore velocity, hasn’t increased due to things like temperature change.

3. Finally, always have a barrel sock on any aired up marker that is within range of any person that is not wearing a paintball mask.

While there are several other safety precautions that need to be kept in mind, when those basic safety guidelines are followed and common sense (which includes unsaid safety precautions) is used paintball becomes safer then driving your car to the field.
What about the injuries that do occur while playing paintball? Well, there have been some.

There has been at least one reported incidence of a paintball related death caused by the malfunction or mishandling of a paintball air source. It happened when a CO2 tank was unscrewed from the valve while it was still pressurized. This turned the tank into a missile. That is why you need to always watch your tank and valve while unscrewing it from the marker and make sure that valve in turning with the tank, and is not unscrewing from it.**

Some modern Co2 tanks come with a “safe vent valve” which has a hole drilled into the valve threads to prevent this very thing from occurring.**

Most injuries, though, are the same that are present in any physical activity, things like twisted ankles and bruises. The most common “injury,” of course, are the bruises from the paintball hits themselves. These are usually not serious at all thought, and generally don’t “"hurt"” more then a few seconds. Things like this are almost always addressed quickly to prevent them from happening again.

Be a smart and a wise paintballers. Dusun Ali King wishes you all the best and good luck on your games.

Thank you.
